Free health sector from foreign influence, says RSS affiliate

CHANDIGARH: Taking strong objections to the presence of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the country’s health sector, RSS-affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch has demanded that the organisation’s influence should be stopped by the government, as it is allegedly “promoting the interest of foreign pharmaceutical firms in the name of philanthropy”.

The Manch has alleged that the foundation is influencing the government’s health policies, including the nation-wide immunisation programme, and many new vaccinations have been launched at its instance.

SJM criticises govt for withdrawing notification capping

New Delhi, Jun 1 (PTI) A RSS affiliate today criticised the government for withdrawing its notification capping the royalty for new genetically modified (GM) traits and alleged that it had "succumbed" to industry pressures. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), a body affiliated to the RSS, BJPs ideological mentor, said it had welcomed the notification capping the royalty payment to corporates and allowing allowing domestic production of GM crop seeds, noting that they cannot be allowed to exploit farmers under the cover of complexities of the issue.

How Monsanto found an able adversary in the Sangh parivaar

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) — an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fount of the Modi government — which lobbied hard and helped skewer agribusiness multinational Monsanto with a price control regimen recently on genetically modified (Bt) cotton seeds is girding up for a long battle ahead.

The move riled Monsanto to an extent that it issued a dire warning: a re-think on its position in India. ET reached out to Monsanto for an engagement on this issue last week but the company says it's not planning any interaction just yet.

Ensure Monsanto doesn't leave India without compensating: Swadeshi Jagran Manch to government

NEW DELHI: In the backdrop of liquor baron Vijay Mallya leaving India without paying debts, an RSS affiliate today asked the government to ensure seeds company Monsanto does not quit the country without compensating farmers who "suffered" due to the firm's "wrong acts".

Swadeshi Jagran Manch claimed Monsanto was "trying to blackmail the Indian government by threatening to quit India after "constantly violating Indian laws" and collecting more than Rs 6,000 crore from poor farmers across the country.
