MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed Mukesh Ambani-promoted Mumbai SEZ’s plea for speedy completion of the land acquisition process and asked the company to approach the Supreme Court because several other cases relating to the SEZ were pending before the apex court. The company, in its petition, had contended that if the land acquisition was not completed by the deadline of June 6, the entire process would lapse under the Land Acquisition Act 1894.

KOLKATA: DLF has the potential to gain from losing the SEZ status for its second IT/ITeS centre in Rajarhat on the northern fringes of Kolkata since a denotification would free it of the numerous restrictions imposed on the kind of clients it can attract to such a facility.

The Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs on Friday said cash-starved realty major DLF should be allowed to denotify its special economic zones if the developer is willing to refund the duty-free benefits claimed, even as the Government will take the final call on the matter on June 2.

Alibaug (Maharashtra), Oct 6 (ANI): Eighty two percent farmers and landowners in Raigad district are against the of the proposed Reliance Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project.

Though the Government has not yet declared any result on the referendum conducted last month, SEZ Sangharsh Samiti chief N D Patil declared the result on the basis of information sought by it.

About 82 percent of farmers are not in favour of SEZ, Patil told reporters in Alibaug.

NEW DELHI: The government has granted a year’s extension to Satyam Computer Services for completion of three special economic zones (SEZs) in Andhra Pradesh, giving elbow room to the new management of the IT firm.

The commerce ministry has granted extension to Satyam’s two Information Technology/Information Technology enabled services (IT/ITeS) SEZs in Hyderabad and the one at Thotlakonda in Visakhapatnam up to June 2010.

The top three information technology service providers — Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys Technologies and Wipro Ltd — have cumulatively got approvals for developing 15 special economic zones (SEZs), but both analysts and the companies say these will be delayed due to the economic slowdown.

According to an up-date from the Surat Apparel Park Association (SAPA), which is a trade body of the apparel manufacturing export units in the Surat Apparel Park SEZ, Gujarat, three of the 11 units have shut down their plants.

Due to the global economic slowdown, the 11 apparel exporters have shipped negligible value of goods in the last few months. These units had requested the state and central government to de-notify the SEZ status and convert it in to regular apparel park.
